Here at the Colonial Inn—one of Ogunquit, Maine’s most historic and lovely hotels—we couldn’t be more excited to launch our 2017 season!
We open our doors on April 14, so now’s the time to book your springtime stay with us! We’ve still got some availability for those holiday weekends barreling down the calendar, including Easter, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day. Speaking of Mother’s Day, we’re offering a special Mother’s Day Package perfect for Mom: Read more about it right here.
And we’re opening in time to provide top notch accommodations for another Ogunquit observance: Patriot’s Day!
Patriot’s Day in Ogunquit
The occasion—celebrated as an official holiday in Maine as in Massachusetts—remembers the military engagements that launched the American Revolution: the Battles of Lexington and Concord, which saw the British Army and colonial militias square off on April 19, 1775. The opening skirmish at Concord’s North Bridge marked the “shot heard round the world” memorialized by Ralph Waldo Emerson’s “Concord Hymn.”
This year’s Patriot’s Day celebration in Ogunquit falls April 21 through the 23rd. It’s a townwide party with all sorts of different components. Seek out paper lanterns with coded messages among the merchants of Perkins Cove during the Lantern Treasure Hunt, or sketch some of Ogunquit’s most venerable landmarks—the Ogunquit Memorial Library, the Ogunquit Playhouse, and others—during the Historical Building Hunt for a chance to win a special prize.
Then there are the multiple historical reenactments, including George Washington crossing the Delaware (beginning at 6:50 PM on Friday, April 21), the Boston Tea Party (6:30 PM on Saturday, April 22), and the flag-raising at Iwo Jima (11 AM on Sunday, April 23).
Throw in outdoor markets, hayrides, pie and meatloaf contests, a showing of The Patriot with free popcorn (2 PM on April 23 at the Dunaway Center), a “pooch parade” of patriotically done-up dogs, and much, much more, and you’ve easily got one of the best Patriot’s Day bashes out there!
The Colonial Inn’s Summer Kickoff Party

With all this coming fast down the pike, what are you waiting for? Get in touch with us today and reserve your accommodations at the Colonial Inn—we’re looking forward to welcoming our very first guests of the year in a few short weeks!
