Ogunquit residents and longtime visitors alike sometimes have trouble choosing a favorite season—and we can sympathize. Every stretch of the calendar has something lovely to offer.
But catch us on a certain kind of day—say, a late-summer one with the first slightly sharp-edged breeze that smells a bit autumnal—and we’re probably going to put ourselves in the “fall” category.
If you’ve stayed with us here at the Colonial Inn during an Ogunquit autumn before, you know what we’re talking about (and we invite you to take in the 2017 edition). And if you haven’t—well, we strongly advise you give it a looksee.
Fewer crowds, warm sunny days, crisp and cozy nights: the autumn ambience in Ogunquit is pretty hard to beat. And then there are all the other seasonal enticements…
Fall Colors
No place on Earth does fall colors like New England, and here in Southern Maine we lay claim to our own mighty fine share. Every year’s different, of course, but our local hardwoods tend to put on a doozy of a multihued show as the temperatures drop. You can appreciate the autumn colors right here in town thanks to our street trees, but we also definitely recommend a daytrip into the forested highlands of the nearby Mount Agamenticus Conservation Region—one of the crown jewels among our region’s recreational offerings—for real dazzlement.
York Harvest Fest
Some wholesome small-town fun awaits just a short drive south of Ogunquit on October 14. That’s when the town of York convenes its delightful Harvest Fest. Wagon rides, pumpkin carving, live music, loads of great local food—hard to think of a better way to spend a crisp fall day!
Kennebunkport HarvestFest
Kennebunkport’s own fall festival is also a standout—and also an easy (and leaf-peeping-worthy) jaunt from Ogunquit. Things kick off with a pancake breakfast and stay lively throughout, not least with the scavenger hunt and costume-heavy Main Street parade.
