One of the high points of the Ogunquit cultural calendar—a plenty well-stocked calendar, mind you—is just about to get underway, and we invite you to join us here at the Colonial Inn anytime during the weeklong affair!
It’s the 24th Annual Chamber Music Festival we’re talking about, that beloved tradition presented each and every year by Ogunquit Performing Arts. The festival takes place Friday, June 8th through Friday, June 15th, and its venues—the Dunaway Community Center on School Street and the Barn Gallery on Shore Road—are both within easy reach of our sumptuous hotel.
The 2018 Chamber Music Festival
For the 19th time, Boston Chamber Music opens the festival on Friday the 8th at the Dunaway Center with a program of Muczynski, Rachmaninoff, Martinu, and Brahms. This will mark the final appearance in Ogunquit of the group’s artistic director and clarinetist, Thomas Hill, who’s easing back his performing schedule next year.
Hill will also lend his talents to the June 15th concert at the Barn Gallery—just minutes from our Colonial Inn door here along Shore Road—by the prestigious Maine-based DaPonte String Quartet. Prepare to be mesmerized by immortal pieces of Haydn, Bartók, and Mozart—followed up by a champagne reception to toast Ogunquit Performing Arts’ mighty impressive 40th anniversary.
Ogunquit Performing Arts
The mission of Ogunquit Performing Arts, as spelled out at the organization’s website, is “to bring to Ogunquit and Southern Maine the highest professional quality of regional, national and international performing artists, and present them to the community at affordable ticket prices.”
That’s translated over the course of four decades to better than 2,000 musicians—of classical persuasion, yes, but also jazz, folk, blues, country, pop, and other genres—delighting Ogunquit locals and visitors alike with hundreds of concerts, large and small.
