One of Ogunquit’s signature summer events will be here in a flash, and you won’t find better front-row seats than a guestroom or suite at the Colonial Inn!
We’re talking about the annual Ogunquit Sidewalk Art Show, which this year—the 44th running of this popular event—falls on August 28 from 9:30 AM to 5 PM. Dozens of artists and professional shutterbugs will gather along Beach Street and in Jacobs Lot in downtown Ogunquit, showing off and selling their varied wares—from watercolors and oil paintings to jewelry and photographs. Even if you don’t come here to buy, it’s a delight strolling from tent to tent, admiring these local creators’ talents and soaking up the perfect summer atmosphere. All the arts-and-crafts pleasures are but a short stroll from our doorstep here at the Colonial Inn
Make a Day of It
Come for the sidewalk art displays, stay for all the other attractions downtown Ogunquit has on offer: cafes and restaurants, boutiques and galleries, and much, much more. Head over to Ogunquit Beach for some one-on-one time with the Gulf of Maine, or learn the town’s backstory at the Ogunquit Heritage Museum.
Another Hub for Art Lovers
And speaking of museums, a nice double-header with the Sidewalk Art Show is the Ogunquit Museum of American Art down in Perkins Cove, pleasantly reached from downtown by a stroll along the paved seaside path of the Marginal Way. The museum celebrates this Beautiful Place by the Sea’s deep artistic heritage through both permanent galleries and temporary exhibitions, which currently include must-sees such as Will Barnet: Family Homage and John Marin: On the Verge of Wilderness.
